The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) is an educational framework designed for students aged 11 to 16. It focuses on holistic learning, encouraging students to make connections between subjects and the real world. Here are some course details about the IB MYP:

1. Subjects in IB MYP

The IB MYP curriculum consists of eight subject groups, which aim to provide a well-rounded education:

  • b. Language Acquisition (A second language)
  • c. Individuals and Societies (Social Studies)
  • d. Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.)
  • e. Mathematics
  • f. Arts (Visual Arts, Performing Arts, etc.)
  • g. Physical and Health Education (PHE)
  • h. Design (Technology, Computer Science, etc.)

2. Grading System

The IB MYP uses a criterion-related grading system from 1 to 7, with 7 being the highest score. Each subject is assessed against specific criteria that measure students' understanding and application of knowledge, conceptual understanding, and skills.

3. Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills

The IB MYP emphasizes the development of Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, which are essential for academic and personal success. These skills include communication, research, self-management, social skills, and thinking skills.

4. Personal Project

In the final year of the IB MYP, students complete a Personal Project, which is an extended independent research project. This project allows students to explore their interests and passions while demonstrating their knowledge and skills.

5. Global Contexts

The IB MYP uses six global contexts to help students understand the relevance of their learning to the world around them. These contexts include identities and relationships, orientation in space and time, personal and cultural expression, scientific and technical innovation, globalization, and sustainability.

6. Assessment

Assessment in the IB MYP is ongoing and takes various forms, including examinations, projects, presentations, and portfolios. Teachers use rubrics and criteria to evaluate students' performance against the MYP objectives.

7. Qualification

Completing the IB MYP does not grant a formal qualification like the IB Diploma. Instead, students receive a comprehensive report that outlines their progress and achievements throughout the program.
